TL; DR. Point on buzzwords other people use, especially when they benefit from selling something to you.
My year 2020 has been fantastic, at least when I view it like a business. Let me wrap it up for you. 2020 was about to be set as a benchmark. Proactively changing the world with disruptive off-line experiences harvesting every fine and granular potential the world has to offer. Facilitating proper risk management strategies to begin the new life cycle of a new era in my personal perception. Using sales driven approaches to achieve a paradigm change, not in the short term, but in the long run. Redesigning the markets that hold my habits to extract every last drop of positive turnout and transform negative circumstances into magnifscent stories. Imagine you walk into a store and the store is designed to offer you the biggest customer value while at the same time it is penetrating your decision-making capabilities, appeals on the outside, but surely looks ugly inside! But until when will this madness continue? When is it going to stop? Until you drop the ball and slowly get pushed out of the loop. 2021 will be the year where I touch base and rather focus on my R.O.I before getting stuck in past year’s review.
Okay. The text above is bloated with buzzwords, also known as bullshit words. In particular, I tried to incorporate every word from a widely known buzzword bingo or bullshit bingo that you can find on the according Wikipedia page
Scalable | Life Cycle | Markets | Timeline | Restructuring |
Risk Management | Off-line | Sales Driven | Penetration | Drop the Ball |
Benchmark | Proactive | Free Space | Customer Value | R.O.I. |
Paradigm | Strategy | Disruptive | Schedule | Cost |
Review | Granular | Facilitate | Touch Base | Out of the Loop |
It is quite interesting how words change one’s perception and are able to oversell a simple event, timeline or service until noone understands a word anymore, but rather interprets what they want to hear. You may believe this does not happen in real life and especially businesses or highly regarded government institutes do not fall for it, but rest assured — it does and they do, big time! Is it wrong? I guess not. If you look closely, you can find a lot of parallels in your behavior that coincides with the use of buzzwords. Should you worry? No, no. It is fine as long as you know that you oversell something and are willing to take responsability for potential damages you inflict on others.
It should be your job to spot those misleading phrasing and it always helps to point them out to the opposite party. The benefit of pointing it out shows within their reaction, as the other side will try to justify their bullshit and may even come up with a better solution than before. Win-Win. I would argue that there are a lot of reasons against expressing oneself that way, however since I belong to the side using this rhetorical deivce, I herewith justify myself! At least, I mostly limit it to the work place where it seems common, more precisely a clishee in my area.
Have you ever played bullshit bingo during a presentation? It sure is fun and I can highly recommend it. The words always update and the table above is a quite old set of buzzwords. Try to spot the next buzzword and write it down to your notebook. Then, we can play our custom buzzword bingo next time. Until then, have the greatest of all days and leave a comment below! This time, no translation.
Lied des Tages
Lieblingsstelle
I’m too busy, don’t have time for
Things you say that aren’t important
Where’s the bathroom at?
Leave me aloneI just came here to the party for the drugs
(Drugs), drugs, (drugs), drugs, (drugs)
I’m not tryna make a friend or fall in love
(Love), love, (love), love, (love)
So just stop the faking
Not for here for nameless faces
Pointless talkin‘, conversations
(Drugs), drugs, (drugs), drugs, (drugs)
I just came here for the drugs
