60.000 steps

TL; DR. Sometimes, you should do something even if it does not seem to contribute to your bigger goals in life.

What about your discipline? Would you rather describe yourself as lazy or permanently active? Probably you see yourself in these areas as worse than you actually are. This is quite normal, after all we live in a high-performance society and it seems as if there is always a place in it for those who are thriving in it and get 120% out of themselves, but also for those who can't get along with this concept, but do phenomenal things with their 60%. This is not a contradiction, because every person is individual. You have your own strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes and an individual composition of skills that you develop and live.

When I realized in October 2020 that I needed to change something about my weight, eating habits, and overall state of wellbeing, I came up with some challenges that I could use to push myself to do more. Now you'd almost certainly expect a totally spectacular story in a blog post about how my whole life changed in the blink of an eye, admit it! But it's a misconception that change happens overnight, and that misconception at least makes you think that you barely have to put any work in and if it doesn't happen in the blink of an eye, you've failed. But Contenance! How about small, easy challenges? Get used to getting up and going out to achieve an obvious goal. Feel free to take this literally. My health insurance company offers bonus programs for walking 7,000 steps a day for 30 days or reaching a total of 60,000 steps a week for 12 weeks. In the beginning, when I had both challenges at the same time, it looked something like this: during the day it was work, in the evening I realized that I hardly moved and then I had to do the remaining, usually around 6,000 steps in the two hours before midnight. It's a good thing, too, because if you go for a walk before you sleep, you get a better quality sleep. With the daily goal, I was also only 11,000 steps away from the weekly goal of the other challenge - that's feasible! Now I'm in week 10 of the challenge and suddenly I'm a whopping 30,000 steps short on the last two days, approximately 17 km or about 3 ½ hours. My week ends on Monday, so there's a whole work day at the notebook in there. That is quite a bit. But through the challenge comes motivation, and I am right now just using my lunch break, previously meant for food and short entertainment, to not lose my challenge in the final sprint. Walking always sounds so relaxing, but with my daily blog challenge I'm using the time while walking to write to give you this post! I'm currently walking through shallow sleet at -4°C and can't feel my fingers anymore. But right now I'm giving more than 100% thanks to multitasking.

I feel like a smombie roaming around, but in the end I am just me going out.

Are you rather the person to pursue unreachable goals or do you split them into multiple milestones? How did work out so far? Let me know in the comments!
